Lo que me contaron en la Universidad es que son radiaciones no ionizantes y no pasa nada. Pero no estoy seguro el efecto sobre la salud, que debido a la necesidad tecnológica, no hay interés en airear mucho.

Epidemiologic evidence relevant to radar (microwave) effects.

Public and occupational exposures to microwave (RF) are of two main types. The first type of exposures are those connected with military and industrial uses and, to some extent broadcast exposures. It is this type that most of the data cited in this study draw upon. The second type, cellular telephones and their associated broadcast requirements, have raised concerns about current exposures because of their increasingly widespread use. Four types of effects were originally reported in multiple studies: increased spontaneous abortion, shifts in red and white blood cell counts, increased somatic mutation rates in lymphocytes, and increased childhood, testicular, and other cancers. In addition, there is evidence of generalized increased disability rates from a variety of causes in one study and symptoms of sensitivity reactions and lenticular opacity in at least one other. These findings suggest that RF exposures are potentially carcinogenic and have other health effects. Therefore, prudent avoidance of unneeded exposures is recommended as a precautionary measure. Epidemiologic studies of occupational groups such as military users and air traffic controllers should have high priority because their exposures can be reasonably well characterized and the effects reported are suitable for epidemiologic monitoring. Additional community studies are needed.

The effect of microwave irradiation on the survival of bacteriophage PL-1, which is specific for Lactobacillus casei, was studied using a commercial 2,450 MHz microwave oven. The phages were inactivated by microwave irradiation according to almost first-order reaction kinetics. The rate of phage inactivation was not affected by the difference in the continuous or intermittent irradiation, nor by the concentrations of phages used, but was affected by the volume of phage suspensions, which prevented the loss of generated heat. Microwave irradiation of phage suspensions produced a number of ghost phages with empty heads, but fragmentation of the tail was hardly noticed. The breakage of phage genome DNA was primarily caused by the heat generated by microwave irradiation, whereas the phage DNA was not affected by the same temperature achieved by heat from outside. Thus we concluded that the phage-inactivating effect of microwave irradiation was mainly attributed to a thermal microwave effect, which was much stronger than a simple thermal exposure.

Aim: The effect of pulsed (100 Hz) microwave (MW) radiation on heart rate
variability (HRV) was tested in a double blind study. Materials and Methods:
Twenty-five subjects in Colorado between the ages of 37 to 79 completed an
electrohypersensitivity (EHS) questionnaire. After recording their orthostatic
HRV, we did continuous real-time monitoring of HRV in a provocation study,
where supine subjects were exposed for 3-minute intervals to radiation generated
by a cordless phone at 2.4 GHz or to sham exposure. Results: Questionnaire:
Based on self-assessments, participants classified themselves as
extremely electrically sensitive (24%), moderately (16%), slightly (16%), not
sensitive (8%) or with no opinion (36%) about their sensitivity. The top 10
symptoms experienced by those claiming to be sensitive include memory problems,
difficulty concentrating, eye problems, sleep disorder, feeling unwell,
headache, dizziness, tinnitus, chronic fatigue, and heart palpitations. The five
most common objects allegedly causing sensitivity were fluorescent lights,
antennas, cell phones, Wi-Fi, and cordless phones. Provocation Experiment:
Forty percent of the subjects experienced some changes in their HRV attributable
to digitally pulsed (100 Hz) MW radiation. For some the response was
extreme (tachycardia), for others moderate to mild (changes in sympathetic
nervous system and/or parasympathetic nervous system). and for some there
was no observable reaction either because of high adaptive capacity or because
of systemic neurovegetative exhaustion. Conclusions: Orthostatic HRV
combined with provocation testing may provide a diagnostic test for some EHS
sufferers when they are exposed to electromagnetic emitting devices. This is the
first study that documents immediate and dramatic changes in both Heart
Rate (HR) and HR variability (HRV) associated with MW exposure at levels well below (0.5%) federal guidelines in Canada and the United States (1000

Phenolic compound contents in edible parts of broccoli inflorescences after domestic cooking

Total flavonoid and individual hydroxycinnamoyl derivative (sinapic and caffeoyl-quinic acid derivative) contents were evaluated in the edible portions of freshly harvested broccoli (cv Marathon inflorescences) before and after cooking and in the cooking water. High-pressure boiling, low-pressure boiling (conventional), steaming and microwaving were the four domestic cooking processes used in this work. The predominant sinapic acid derivatives were identified as 1,2,2′-trisinapoylgentiobiose and 1,2′-disinapoyl-2-feruloylgentiobiose. In addition 1,2-diferuloylgentiobiose and 1-sinapoyl-2,2′-diferuloylgentiobiose were also identified in broccoli inflorescences. The results showed large differences among the four treatments in their influence on flavonoid and hydroxycinnamoyl derivative contents in broccoli. Clear disadvantages were detected when broccoli was microwaved, namely high losses of flavonoids (97%), sinapic acid derivatives (74%) and caffeoyl-quinic acid derivatives (87%). Conventional boiling led to a significant loss of flavonoids (66%) from fresh raw broccoli, while high-pressure boiling caused considerable leaching (47%) of caffeoyl-quinic acid derivatives into the cooking water. On the other hand, steaming had minimal effects, in terms of loss, on both flavonoid and hydroxycinnamoyl derivative contents. Therefore we can conclude that a greater quantity of phenolic compounds will be provided by consumption of steamed broccoli as compared with broccoli prepared by other cooking processes. Electromagnetic fields are packets of energy that does not have any mass, and visible light is what we know best. X-rays are also electromagnetic fields, but they are more energetic than visible light. Claims that cell phones pose no health hazards are supported solely by Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) limits safety standards written by the telecommunications industry decades ago based on studies they funded. These have made the erroneous assumption that the only harm that could come from cell phone radiofrequency emissions would be from a thermal or heating action, since such non thermal fields can have no biological effects. The late Dr. Ross Adey disproved this three decades ago by demonstrating that very similar radiofrequency fields with certain carrier and modulation frequencies that had insufficient energy to produce any heating could cause the release of calcium ions from cells. Since then, numerous research reports have confirmed that non thermal fields from cell phones, tower transmitters, power lines, and other man made sources can significantly affect various tissues and physiologic functions.

We are constantly being bathed in an increasing sea of radiation from exposure to the above, as well as electrical appliances, computers, Bluetooth devices, Wi-Fi installations and over 2,000 communications satellites in outer space that shower us with signals to GPS receivers. New WiMax transmitters on cell phone towers that have a range of up to two square miles compared to Wi-Fi’s 300 feet will soon turn the core of North America into one huge electromagnetic hot spot. Children are more severely affected because their brains are developing and their skulls are thinner. A two-minute call can alter brain function in a child for an hour, which is why other countries ban their sale or discourage their use under the age of 18. In contrast, this is the segment of the population now being targeted here in a $2 billion U.S. advertising campaign that views “tweens” (children between 8 and 12 years old) as the next big cell phone market. Firefly and Barbie cell phones are also being promoted for 6 to 8-year-olds.

It is not generally appreciated that there is a cumulative effect and that talking on a cell phone for just an hour a day for ten years can add up to 10,000 watts of radiation. That’s ten times more than from putting your head in a microwave oven. Pregnant women may also be at increased risk based on a study showing that children born to mothers who used a cell phone just two or three times a day during pregnancy showed a dramatic increase in hyperactivity and other behavioral and emotional problems. Moriré mal y pronto PERO:

1) casi todo lo caliento en el micro: ahorras tiempo y friegas menos. Lo del fregoteo se agradece mucho si no tienes lavaplatos (es mi caso).
2) las patatas en rodajas con sal y aceite de oliva durante 20 minutos en cuenco de "pyrex" y tapadas quedan genial para tortilla. GENIAL.
3) la única forma de cocinar berenjenas sin cantidades indecentes de aceite es en el micro.

Lo dicho. Palmaré pronto...

Yo evito utilizarlo siempre que puedo. Ahora, lo que has puesto sobre los niveles de la cocina me ha acojonado un poco. Supongo que será sólo en los momentos cercanos a su uso...

Precisamente el otro día hablaba con un amigo y me contaba que en casa no tenían micro porque su padre, que estudió ingeniera de alguna especialidad relacionada, pensaba que como invento era una completa aberración.

Al final es un poco aterrador todo esto: ahora mismo estoy recibiendo señal de 15 redes wifi diferentes, habrá cerca de 10 teléfonos móviles en menos de 20 metros a la redonda y 3 o 4 microondas.

El otro día conecté unos altavoces antiguos que tenía por casa, de estos a los que si le acercabas un teléfono se ponía a petardear. Pues bien, los tuve que quitar porque cada 5 minutos se oía el petardeo constante. Igual es una tontería, pero me quedé mosca total xD

Yo también tengo un amigo que se niega a tener microondas. Le entiendo pero es que no puedo dejar de usarlo. O sí pero no quiero. Soy una contradicción con patas. En mi débil defensa añadiré que jamás uso plástico aunque ponga que es apto para micro. Siempre cristal "pyrex" y tapas de silicona especial.

Yo estoy barajando la posibilidad como complemento/ayuda la thermomix, cara de cojones pero cuándo vives solo......y te picas con recetas elaboradas va de lujo. Este finde me curre un pan de trigo sarraceno con grano molido en batidora y me deje el brazo por completo en ello.....no hay color!
De momento he pillado estas fiestas una olla de cocción lenta (cockpot) para los platos preparados, y se nota las horas de guiso a fuego lentico....abuela saca la cuchara que vamos a comernos hasta la olla!
Al vapor indispensable, la olla perfecta en el outlet del lidl (Pinto-Madrid) por 12€!
